At Questacon, Canberra’s hands-on science museum, the new gallery for children aged 0–6 blends immersive learning with playful design - supported by the acoustic performance needed to keep a high-energy space comfortable and engaging.
Within the Mangroves-themed zone, the design team required a tactile, canopy-like feature that children could experience as part of the environment. The solution needed to be more than decorative; it had to contribute to the sensory and spatial experience while supporting acoustic control.
Zintra Ceiling Features delivered the ideal foundation for this vision. Using both Clouds and Shapes as the basis for exploration, the existing Clouds Turbine profile was transformed into custom mangrove-leaf forms in Olive and Lime. Suspended above the play area, these textured elements function as both an immersive installation and an acoustic treatment in the bustling gallery - demonstrating how Zintra can turn acoustic solutions into meaningful design features.
