Designing an Acoustic Ceiling for Future Flexibility
When designing the new WesTrac Corporate Offices, T&Z Architects sought an acoustic ceiling solution that could deliver sound control, architectural impact and long-term adaptability across two large open voids.
The design required a suspended acoustic system capable of enhancing workplace comfort while accommodating potential future building modifications, including the addition of a glass elevator within the space.
The Design Challenge
The project presented several unique requirements. The acoustic treatment needed to perform within large open voids rather than a conventional ceiling plane, while integrating seamlessly with lighting services and supporting the overall architectural vision.
Noise control was also a key consideration, with the workplace located near a major airport and requiring effective acoustic management to improve occupant comfort and productivity.
The Acoustic Solution
Zintra Mesh Baffles Random was specified to meet the project's acoustic, lighting and future adaptability requirements. Installed within the open void spaces, the suspended baffle system creates visual movement and depth while helping reduce noise throughout the workplace. The custom powder-coated finish was matched to WesTrac's corporate branding, transforming the acoustic treatment into a distinctive architectural feature.
To support the design process, digital modeling and visualization tools helped the project team evaluate layouts and communicate the concept throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Outcome
The completed installation demonstrates how acoustic ceiling systems can do more than manage sound.
